Nature-based solutions (NbS) represent one of the most effective, scalable, and economically viable strategies for addressing the climate crisis, while generating concrete benefits for biodiversity, ecosystem services, and local communities. NbS address social challenges through actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural and modified ecosystems, benefiting people and nature at the same time.
Projects involving NbS focus on restoring, regenerating, and intensifying natural ecological processes that promote carbon removal from the atmosphere, reduce GHG emissions, and increase the resilience of ecosystems and human systems to the impacts of climate change.
