LEBAM Program

Agriculture is the second main source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Brazil. A large part of these emissions come from methane, from the natural rumination processes of cattle, which has a greenhouse effect 28 times greater than carbon dioxide. To address this issue, WayCarbon has developed the LEBAM Program, from the Portuguese acronym Low Methane Milk.

Highly additional project to reduce emissions from livestock farming.

Highly additional, LEBAM is a carbon project that seeks to reduce methane emissions in dairy farming by using Bovaer® from dsm-firmenich. The feed supplement reduces emissions in the cattle’s digestive system by up to 30%, which corresponds to one ton per year of CO2e avoided per animal.

The aim is that the revenue from the sale of carbon credits from the project will make it possible to purchase Bovaer and encourage producers to continue using the additive, as they get discounts on dsm-firmenich lactation products, reducing the cost of milk production.
