Press release

To help companies in the national and international market assess the maturity and indicators of the supply chain in the sustainability agenda, WayCarbon, a reference in climate solutions aimed at a just and resilient transition towards a Net-Zero economy, announces the new Suppliers ESG Management module of the WayCarbon Ecosystem platform. The launch allows buyer companies to identify gaps and opportunities, supporting suppliers’ evolution on the sustainability journey.

The solution comes in a context in which large companies have often been co-responsible for the actions of their suppliers with regard to sustainability issues, which has already triggered the occurrence of reputational and legal crises. When it comes specifically to climate change, the value chain can center the greatest risks on the contracting company in some sectors. Regarding Greenhouse Gas emissions, for example, upstream scope 3 emissions are, on average, 11.4 times higher than direct emissions, according to 2023 data from CDP.

Challenges on Suppliers ESG Management

The new module, which will be made available to the market in three languages (Portuguese, English and Spanish), is part of the WayCarbon Ecosystem, a multimodular digital platform that supports organizations of different sectors and sizes in managing issues on the climate and sustainability agenda. Suppliers ESG Management was developed in order to reduce the complexity in obtaining information about the supply chain. “There is increasing scrutiny by stakeholders around the world regarding companies’ effective knowledge of environmental, social and supplier governance practices. Automating the process of understanding the maturity of those who provide inputs is a collaborative and strategic way to advance the climate and ESG agenda,” says Lauro Marins, Head of Consulting and Digital Solutions at WayCarbon.

To develop the analysis methodology for the new module, WayCarbon used its 19-year consultative knowledge in the market and benchmarks based on global standards. By using the new module, the supplier is evaluated based on an overview of the main ESG issues in its sector, based on financial materiality criteria. Based on the results obtained, the platform will provide a summary action plan, proposing actions and initiatives to fill the identified gaps, as well as to address opportunities with the partners in the chain.

Although it is challenging to influence actions outside the company’s operational control, seeking practices that enable action on the value chain is essential for a robust alignment with the best practices of sustainability and combating climate change,” concludes Marins.
