One of the key drivers of the transition to a scalable, sustainable and low-carbon economy is technology. Large companies have complex structures and processes, so they need integration, organisation, and security to develop their initiatives, set targets, and communicate with the market in a timely manner.

Against this backdrop, the global market is expected to invest up to $1.7 billion in the adoption of climate management software by 2023, according to the independent research firm Verdantix. In line with this global movement, WayCarbon has partnered with Globo to deliver Climas, an Integrated Climate and ESG Management software. The implementation process, carried out by WayCarbon’s dedicated team, began in November 2022 and was completed in the first half of 2023.

Integration adds value to the ESG and climate agenda.

By adopting the tool, Globo has also chosen to integrate it with Power BI, Microsoft’s Business Intelligence (BI) tool, through an API (Application Programming Interface) offered by Climas. The implementation of Climas will contribute to the company’s strategic vision, saving time and improving the manageability of the calculation of its socio-environmental and governance KPIs, as well as enabling the tracking of the  evolution over time of its objectives and material issues.

“Globo went to the market looking for a robust and secure tool and found these attributes in Climas,” says Carla Leal, Digital Director at  WayCarbon. The software will be used to consolidate its ESG indicators, manage greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy consumption, and respond to the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) and the SASB (Sustainability Accounting Standards Board) reports.

The reliability of reported information is essential.

By using technology, climate and ESG management becomes systematic, resulting in greater accuracy of reported data. The software also facilitates audits by allowing the creation of a user account for auditors to access emission factors, methodologies and supporting documentation to verify data accuracy.

“The process of evaluating climate information through independent audits is challenging, but it is a necessary step for companies that want to take this issue seriously. Only greenhouse gas inventories that have undergone this audit receive the Gold Seal of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Programme, a body that develops global standards for measuring and managing emissions,” says Carla Leal. In 2022, Globo published the Carbon Inventories for the years 2019, 2020, and 2021 in the Public Emissions Registry with the Gold Seal, the highest level of transparency and credibility, becoming the first Brazilian company in the media and communications sector to receive this recognition.
