More companies are publishing GHG inventories

GHG PROTOCOL

The number of companies that published GHG inventories in the 2024 cycle increased by 24% compared to the previous year and 77% over the last three years. The data comes from the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program report released this month. This scenario shows the private sector’s growing concern with the transparency and governance of climate information.

In this cycle, WayCarbon was once again recognized with the Program’s Gold Seal, awarded to organizations that have published a complete third-party verified inventory. In addition, 84% of the clients of the WayCarbon Ecosystem platform (formerly known as Climas) also won the Gold Seal; 16% received the Silver Seal: for complete inventories not verified by a third party.

The results were announced in São Paulo on August 21 at an event that also presented cases and good practices of climate responsibility. Members of the WayCarbon Ecosystem service team, Talita Esturba and Natalia Crespo Mendes, took part in the ceremony.

Among the cases presented were three WayCarbon clients. CBA (from the Aluminum industry) discussed its maturity in managing Scope 3 emissions through the Sustainable Supply Program; the SOMA Group (retail) shared its progress in accounting for end-of-life product emissions; and JBS (farming) presented improvements in the strategic governance of the climate agenda.

Decarbonization targets

According to the survey, more than half of the companies taking part in the Program have already set decarbonization targets. “The inventory is a management tool (…) It’s important for the organization to know where it is and act to mitigate the emissions and impact it produces”, said Guilherme Lefèvre, researcher and manager of the Program, in an interview to Brazilian paper Valor Econômico. “The annual event is a time for celebration, but also for reflection on the size of the challenge. We need to encourage companies not to stop at diagnosis” he added.

At WayCarbon, we believe that technology is an essential vector for conducting effective decarbonization strategies. Through the WayCarbon Ecosystem, a digital platform that combines our consulting expertise with the scalability of technology, we support businesses with complex structures and processes, ensuring the systematization, security and analytical power necessary for organizations to move forward with this agenda.
