The Challenge
Magalu is the largest multichannel platform for buying and selling in Brazil. Aware of its size and impact, the group is dedicating increasing efforts to integrate topics such as ESG and Climate Change into its operations. One of the tools used for this is the GHG inventory – a complex document to be accomplished, for collecting a high volume of data. Magalu saw the challenge of producing it increase when it incorporated 26 more companies between 2020 and 2021. Until then, data collection was done by spreadsheets, e-mails and a registration system, which consumed a lot of team time in operational activities, such as calculating emissions.
Our Work
The company adopted the Ecosystem GHG Management module. Thus, the onboarding stage was performed, which involved technical meetings and parameterization, followed by the training and data insertion phases. As part of the process, WayCarbon experts conducted interviews with managers of operational units to map the sources of emissions of the company. It took six months between the adoption of the platform, the finalization of the GHG inventory and the external audit of the information.
Results
The main result of the work was to generate the inventory with practicality, safety, and traceability. With Ecosystem, the company now has not only an “overview” of the previous year’s emissions profile, but a continuity in the management of emissions throughout the year, with more transparency and organization. Additionally, the software became an ally for the organization to respond more efficiently to investors and the market about its sustainability actions.
